Sound Horse Outreach®
We support and promote the naturally gaited, sound Tennessee Walking Horse
Sound Horse Outreach
was founded
in 1997 as Sound Horse Organization in reaction to the soring and abuse rampant in the Tennessee Walking
Horse Show World. The primary purpose then and now is to educate horse
owners as to the wide scope and methods of abuse.
Though the abuse is not limited to the Walking Horse industry, it was in
this industry where it began and grew to such horrific proportions, the
Horse Protection Act
had to be enacted into Federal Law in 1970. These abuses
have spread to include all shows, fairs, sales, exhibitions, etc...which
involve all breeds of horses.
SHO members had booths at shows, fairs, and expos to explain the abuse and
to offer helpful advice as to how to stop the practice of soring.
SHO supported Sound Horse Shows affiliated with
FOSH,
NWHA,
AHPA, HSUS, etc...(shows with
no chemical or mechanical soring with their name and financial sponsorships.
SHO rescued abused horse of all breeds (along with other animals) and placed
them in loving, caring homes.
SHO donated funds to, and allies itself with other groups such as
FOSH,
ASPCA, and
AHDF, who have proven their championship for the welfare of
horses.
SHO donated funds to other horse welfare groups such as NCERL, Wild Horse
Sanctuary, Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, who work to provide homes for
abused, starved, lame, aged, or damaged horses who are abandoned when their
usefulness to their owner is over sometimes being sold for slaughter.
This website is only the "tip of the iceberg" of the abuse of horses and is now an archive of information. We have changed our name to Sound Horse Outreach, but have not changed our fight to end the abuse of horses, forever.
40,000 foals from PMU farm mares are slaughtered each year with their meat
going to foreign countries. Horses are rounded up by the BLM from public
lands, sold at auction, where some continue on to slaughter.
Aside from the work our members undertake with education to the public, the
members of SHO write letters, fax, and e-mail to local and federal
legislators, providing them with information and encouragement to introduce
or pass bills that will fund and enforce the HPA, to stop the abuse of all
kinds to all breeds.
If you own horses or just love horses, won't you please join us in our effort?
